Hello everyone, Denise here. In our work together at Reiki Associates and Lotus Wings Wellness Centre, we often experience firsthand the profound shifts that energy healing can bring. Yet, for many, the world of Reiki has traditionally felt a bit abstract – something felt rather than measured. I am thrilled to share that this perspective is rapidly changing. Science is catching up to what practitioners have known for decades.

Recently, Dr. David R. Hamilton – a former pharmaceutical scientist who trained in Reiki over 25 years ago – shared insights from a groundbreaking 2025 study that perfectly highlights this shift. The study, involving researchers from Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, among others, explored how Reiki can significantly reduce pain for patients with knee osteoarthritis.

What makes this study so compelling is its rigorous, placebo-controlled approach. In scientific trials, testing a drug against a placebo is standard practice. But how do you create a placebo for energy work? The researchers used what Dr. Hamilton calls “Feiki” (sham Reiki), where an actor with no Reiki training mimicked the exact hand placements and movements of a certified practitioner.

The results were astonishing: 55% of the patients who received actual Reiki experienced a clinically significant reduction in their pain, compared to only 20% in the “Feiki” group. This completely dismantled the argument that Reiki’s benefits are merely the placebo effect at work. The trained channeling of universal life force energy produced a measurable, scientifically validated physiological outcome.

Whether we are practicing the Western, Sensei Takata lineage or the Eastern Japanese style of Komyo ReikiDo, the core mechanism remains the same. Reiki acts as a biofield therapy, bringing the physiology into a state of balance and calm so the body’s own natural healing mechanisms can take over. When we consider this alongside tools like Dr. David Hawkins’ map of consciousness, it makes perfect sense: elevating our energetic frequency directly impacts our physical reality.

Perhaps the most important takeaway from this scientific validation is what it means for the future of holistic healthcare. Because Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice, it integrates seamlessly into any medical protocol. It does not compete with or hinder traditional medical treatments; instead, it works synergistically alongside them. Whether supporting someone through post-operative recovery, managing chronic pain, or even easing the anxieties of our beloved pets through Animal Reiki, this modality simply provides the energetic support the body needs to heal itself more optimally.

It is a beautiful time to be in this space. The bridge between mainstream medicine and energy healing is growing stronger every day, moving from what some used to dismiss as “woo-woo” to what is now undeniably recognized as effective, integrative care.

Wishing you all balance, health, and a beautiful flow of energy today!

Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen,
Denise
